Welcome to New Gardener.com!
Imagine waking up one warm summer morning and the first thing you do is go outside to check on your new garden.
To your amazement, the plants you carefully nurtured as seedlings in the spring are now starting to bloom! You feel incredible pride, and immerse yourself in the colors and fragrances now greeting you as you walk around your new garden.
As the summer goes on, it gets only better — more colorful, more fragrant, more satisfying to you as a new gardener.
If this is YOUR dream as a new gardener, we’ve created this web site just for you — the first time gardener who is wondering how to get started and has questions about everything.
I personally know what it’s like because I’ve been there myself.
For most of my adult life I’ve been surrounded by gardeners with proverbial “green thumbs.” I didn’t know how lucky I was! Then, when I was on my own and bought my first house, I realized that I just had to have a new garden. And the only way to get one was to grow it myself. And so I learned the hard way, by trial and error, seeking out the advice of more experienced gardeners.
Then, one summer morning I walked out into my yard and there it was! The new garden I had dreamed about, looking just as I hoped it would. That doesn’t mean I stopped learning — I still consider myself growing as a gardener. But I learn more every year. This web site is all about sharing what I — and other gardeners — have come to know and love about gardening.

What makes NewGardener.com different is our perspective. Too many gardening magazines, books, and web sites, assume a great deal. Our purpose here is to make sure we cover the basics, explain how to do things so that even I can understand, and perhaps when we are feeling a little ambitious. . .try something new or more advanced.
